Former Rank 1 3×3 basketball player Govinda Sharma has announced the launch of the Siliguri 3×3 Basketball League, a landmark initiative aimed at empowering local basketball players and strengthening the sport’s grassroots structure in North Bengal.
The league will be conducted under FIBA 3×3 guidelines, ensuring international standards of play. Designed as a month-long tournament, matches will take place on weekends, offering competitive exposure while remaining accessible to students and working athletes. The initiative is expected to significantly elevate the basketball culture across the region.

The matches will be hosted at the indoor court of Kaga Basketball Academy, a premium basketball training centre in Siliguri. The academy has been instrumental in developing regional talent, having produced over six national-level players, and continues to serve as a hub for basketball development in North Bengal.
Govinda Sharma has been at the forefront of basketball growth in Siliguri. His introduction of India’s first Hoop Car, a mobile basketball unit, brought the sport directly to communities and inspired widespread participation. Along with his association with the IB3L, Sharma has consistently worked to create professional pathways for aspiring players.
With the Siliguri League, Sharma aims to provide local athletes with a platform that bridges grassroots basketball and professional competition, further establishing Siliguri as an emerging destination for 3×3 basketball in eastern India.
