Chandigarh, July 2026: Higher education is increasingly expected to prepare students for more than a degree. Chandigarh Vidya Jyoti Eduversity (VJES) is taking this approach further with the planned launch of a Civil & Armed Forces Preparatory College in Chandigarh following an MoU with the Indian Army.
The agreement, signed at the Ministry of Defence, South Block, New Delhi, is intended to connect professional higher education with preparation for civil services and defence careers. The institution describes the proposed college as India’s first Civil & Armed Forces Preparatory College.
The initiative has been designed with a particular focus on eligible wards of serving Armed Forces personnel, veterans and martyrs. Under the MoU, eligible students can receive special scholarships of up to 60%, along with access to recognised higher-education programmes and specialised preparation for competitive examinations.
More Than Examination Coaching
The proposed institution is based on the idea that preparation for a career in public service or the Armed Forces requires development in several areas.
Students will have access to coaching for the UPSC Civil Services Examination, CDS, AFCAT, CAPF and other Defence Services examinations. SSB Interview preparation will also form part of the programme, with dedicated GTO Grounds available for training.
Alongside examination preparation, the college plans to incorporate NCC and NSS activities, communication skills training, leadership development, physical fitness programmes and mentoring by experienced defence professionals.
This broader structure is intended to help students develop abilities that can be useful both during competitive selection processes and later professional careers.
Academic Programmes Across Professional Fields
The Civil & Armed Forces Preparatory College will operate within a larger higher-education ecosystem at Chandigarh Vidya Jyoti Eduversity.
The institution offers Government University-recognized Diploma, Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in disciplines including Artificial Intelligence & Information Technology, Business Management, Commerce, Hospitality & Tourism, Health Sciences, Police & Public Administration, Journalism & Mass Communication and Media & Digital Communication.
Students can also choose programmes in Fashion Design, Interior Design, Graphic & Web Design, Animation & Multimedia and other emerging professional areas.
This range of courses means the proposed model is not restricted to students who intend to enter the Armed Forces or civil services. Students can pursue professional qualifications in their chosen fields while receiving access to structured competitive-examination preparation.

A Focus on the Future of Armed Forces Families
The education of Armed Forces families is an important part of the collaboration.
Brig. Raj Kumar, ADG, Indian Army, said the welfare of serving personnel also encompasses the education, aspirations and future of their families. He said the partnership would provide opportunities for quality higher education and professional development to the wards of serving personnel, veterans and martyrs.
For VJES, the initiative represents an opportunity to build an educational environment around discipline, leadership and service.
Dr. D. J. Singh, Director of Chandigarh Vidya Jyoti Eduversity, said the institution considers the MoU a commitment to the families of those who serve the country. He also outlined the institution’s aim of developing students who can become civil servants, defence officers, entrepreneurs and responsible citizens.
Building a Broader Educational Model
The institution’s stated long-term vision is to bring academic education, leadership, patriotism and service together within a single educational framework.
By combining professional degree programmes with defence-oriented training and civil services preparation, VJES aims to give students a structured route towards several career possibilities. The emphasis is not limited to employability; the institution also seeks to develop discipline, responsibility and leadership among its students.
Admissions for the 2026–27 academic session are currently open.
Chandigarh Vidya Jyoti Eduversity is located on the Chandigarh–Ambala Highway at Derabassi, District Mohali, Punjab. The institution offers Government University-recognized Diploma, Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes and states that its academic model includes industry exposure, leadership development and a focus on employability.
The launch of the Civil & Armed Forces Preparatory College adds a specialised dimension to this academic offering, giving students an opportunity to pursue higher education while preparing for some of India’s major civil services and defence examinations.
